Many other Internet sites that sell adult videos use their own rating system. Canada's Best finds it suspicious that every title they offer for sale has a near perfect score (4 1/2 out of 5, 9 out of 10, etc.) How can a site which advertises over 10,000 titles for sale not carry a single stinker?
Instead of concocting artificial ratings which are really nothing more than marketing hype, Canada’s Best Adult Video Source includes ratings from as many respected independent sources as we can find. One thing is pretty obvious — rating are a very subjective thing. One source may rate a title very highly while a different source may give the same video a low score (this is especially true for fetish titles). As always, different strokes for different folks. You should use the ratings only as a guide, not as gospel.
Here are how some of the different rating systems are applied:
Adam Film World
***** (5) — A time-tested classic that no collector should be without.
**** (4) — An excellent picture, combining good production with superbly crafted sex.
*** (3) — A very good, highly entertaining product.
** (2) — An otherwise good movie that has several major flaws.
* (1) — Not a very good show, but it may have some appeal because of subject matter.
Eroticism is graded as Warm, Hot, or Volcanic. A movie that may be highly rated for technical and professional reasons, may still receive a warm rating. On the other hand, a picture that is not very good for technical reasons may be Volcanic in its sexual intesity and delivery.
AVN / AVN Film
AAAAA(5) / 10 — A very rare occurrence; awarded to a handful of videos each year. Either the sex has to be near-phenomenal, or Brad Armstrong delivers a Robert De Niro performance. More likely the sex has to be phenomenal.
AAAA 1/2 (4.5) / 9 — Guaranteed Editor’s Choice. Again, almost as rare as Mel Gibson sightings at a Ron Jeremy lookalike contest.
AAAA (4) / 8 — Exceptional. Technically, the i’s have been dotted, the T’s have been crossed, and all initial penetration shots covered. And there was probably a gaping anus or two, to boot. Your dick will thank you in the morning.
AAA 1/2 (3.5) / 7 — Very good, a definite "thumbs up" recommendation. Maybe a penetration shot or a nip and tuck away from being exceptional.
AAA (3) / 6 — Average. B to B+ range for all you academics. Par for the course for you sports fans.
AA 1/2 (2.5) / 5 — Beauty’s only skin deep, but this one’s really digging.
